East Texas woman found lying in roadway victim of hit and run | News
MOUNT PLEASANT, TX (KLTV)- Mount Pleasant Police say they received a call early Tuesday morning about a woman spotted lying along the edge of the roadway on S. Otyson Avenue.
According to authorities, at approximately 12:30 a.m., police responded to the call and found that several citizens had stopped to help the woman, now identified as 49-year-old Martha Riley, who apparently was injured while walking home from work at Pilgrim's. Riley had what appeared to be a head injury and broken leg. She was not responsive when found.
Those who stopped to assist the woman told police they didn't see what had happened to her, but had simply stopped to help when they spotted her.
Riley was taken to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler where she is listed in critical condition.
Evidence found at the scene leads officers to believe the woman was hit by a vehicle. Based on the severity of the woman's injuries, investigators believe there may be damage to the vehicle that struck her. Damage could be to the front passenger side of the vehicle.
